What Is Anakeesta?

The Crystal Express: The World's Only All-Glass Gondola
The Crystal Express is part of Anakeesta's five-year $100 million "Making More Magic" expansion. It features 56 panoramic cabins with glass floors and walls, offering guests 360-degree views of the Great Smoky Mountains and downtown Gatlinburg on a four-minute ride to the summit.
The Crystal Express rises 600 feet above downtown Gatlinburg and goes as high as 80 feet above the ground at select points of the route. "The views from the cabin are amazing when you look down through the glass floor. It's the only all-glass gondola cabin in the world, which is amazing, and for me the glass floors are so cool, but it's the panorama glass that really gives you 360-degree views of the Smokies that's just so incredible," said Anakeesta President Bryce Bentz.

The Firefly Experience opened June 11, 2026, and addresses one of the most asked-about natural phenomena in the Smoky Mountains — the synchronous firefly display that happens in Elkmont each May but requires winning a highly competitive lottery to witness in person. The Anakeesta version brings that experience to the mountaintop attraction on a year-round basis, using synchronized lighting design to replicate the pattern, rhythm, and atmosphere of the real event in a controlled environment.
For visitors who didn't win the national park firefly lottery — the majority of people who enter — the Firefly Experience is the most accessible version of this phenomenon available in the Smokies. AnaVista Tower: The Highest Point in Downtown Gatlinburg
The AnaVista Observation Tower sits at the highest point of the Anakeesta property — the highest publicly accessible point in downtown Gatlinburg. The 360-degree view from the tower spans the full arc of the Smoky Mountain ridgeline, the Gatlinburg valley below, and on clear days, multiple mountain ranges extending well beyond the immediate park boundary.
The viewing platform is open-air, making it weather-dependent in a way the indoor Firefly Experience isn't. Clear days produce the most dramatic distance views. Getting There and Parking
You cannot drive to Anakeesta. Guests park in nearby city or adjacent lots along the Parkway and then ride the Crystal Express gondola or Ridge Rambler from 576 Parkway up to the summit. Anakeesta does not provide parking.

Ride the Crystal Express or Ridge Rambler to the top, and your wristband gives you all-day access for as many times as you want to go up.
The unlimited daily access model — your wristband covers as many ascents and descents as you want throughout your visit — is worth knowing before you plan your day. You don't need to do everything in one trip to the top. Some visitors ride up, have lunch, ride down to get something from their car or the Parkway, and ride back up for the evening programming. 2026 Construction Notice
As part of Anakeesta's 2026 expansion, construction will continue through 2026. During this time, some attractions — the Dueling Zipline — are temporarily closed. The "Making More Magic" five-year expansion is the most ambitious period of investment in the park's history, and the construction timeline means the visitor experience in 2026 is a transitional version of what the park will eventually be. Practical Tips
Ride the Crystal Express at least twice. The ascent and descent are genuinely different experiences — different lighting, different views, different emotional register. Going up in the morning and coming down in the evening gives you the full range of what the gondola offers.
The glass floor. If you have visitors in your group who are sensitive to heights, know that the glass floor is visible throughout the entire four-minute ride. It doesn't create genuine safety concerns, but the visual transparency is persistent. There are no opaque floor sections to stand on.
Evening visits in summer. The summer hours extend into the evening, and the mountaintop atmosphere after 6 p.m. — cooler air, golden light on the ridgelines, the Firefly Experience at its most atmospheric — is worth planning around specifically if your schedule allows.
Weather. At 600 feet above the valley, Anakeesta sits in a slightly different weather zone than downtown Gatlinburg. Mountain fog can move in and reduce views significantly — a clear morning can become a foggy afternoon on the same day.
